Hilma af Klint (1862–1944) was a pioneer in abstract art, having left representational painting behind as early as 1906. When she painted, she was in contact with a higher consciousness that spoke through her. In her remarkable, colorful works, geometric shapes and symbols are combined with ornamental elements. Her multi-layered imagery explores different dimensions of existence, where microcosm and macrocosm reflect each other.
