Collection: POP ART

Pop Art

In a time of economic growth and mass-consumerism, Pop Art emerged in the UK and the USA in the 1950s. The movement is characterised by its use of everyday objects and popular culture, such as images from advertisements or comic books, in art. The canvas or podium, which earlier had been seen as something almost holy was now being filled with mass-produced images that could be torn out of any glossy magazine. This challenged notions of originality and what it means to be an artist!

Big names within the movement were, among others, Any Warhol, Yayoi Kusama, Robert Rauschenberg, Roy Lichtenstein and Niki de Saint Phalle, to name a few.
