Hilma af Klint (1862–1944) was a pioneer in abstract art, leaving behind representational painting as early as 1906. When she painted, she was in contact with a higher consciousness that spoke through her. In her extraordinary, colorful works, geometric shapes and symbols are combined with ornamental elements. Her multi-layered visual world addresses different dimensions of existence, where the microcosm and macrocosm reflect each other.
