The man with his eyes closed in The Child's Brain is one of the father figures that appear in de Chirico's art after his father's untimely death in 1905. The red ribbon between the pages of the book becomes a link between the viewer, who is in the artist's position, and the dead father. A sheer yet impenetrable curtain cuts through the picture space, as if to mark distance and the inability to make contact. Moderna Museet acquired the work from the surrealist leader and poet André Breton in connection with the exhibition The Museum of Desires in 1964. At Breton's home, all the surrealists had seen the painting, which had a decisive significance for many of them. What they saw was a surrealist image created ten years (1914) before the first surrealist manifesto was written.

The motif on this poster is a work of art in the collection of Moderna Museet.
