Hilma af Klint (1862–1944) was a pioneer in abstract art and had already left representational painting behind by 1906. When she painted, she was in contact with a higher consciousness that spoke through her. In her remarkable, vibrant works, geometric shapes and symbols combine with ornamental elements. Her multi-layered visual world addresses the different dimensions of existence, where the microcosm and macrocosm reflect each other.
