With "Winds from Jericho" Zvi Goldstein's unique artistry is shown for the first time in Sweden. Goldstein was born in Romania in 1947. The family emigrated to Israel in 1958 and Goldstein studied art in Jerusalem. He continued his art studies in Milan where he graduated in 1972. In 1978 he left Europe and settled in Jerusalem.

From Jerusalem, he made extensive journeys in Africa, Asia, and the Middle East as part of his artistic practice. Goldstein's art is rooted in both Western contexts and pre-modern traditions that he came to know on his travels. The works are the result of reconstructed memories.

Through his personal way of exploring a larger world, Goldstein places contemporary art in a broader perspective and opens up a more inclusive and global view of ourselves and the world around us.

The exhibition's title refers to the warm winds from the Sahara that guided Goldstein on his travels. Jericho, one of the world's oldest cities, is located in the West Bank, east of Jerusalem. The site could be seen from Goldstein's studio window and represented, for him, an unknown world.

The catalogue published in conjunction with the exhibition focuses on the extensive work "From My Archive", which is being premiered in a new version in the exhibition. Based on this work, Zvi Goldstein talks with art historian Julian Heynen about his artistic career and the works included in the exhibition.
