Hilma af Klint (1862–1944) was a pioneer in abstract art who left behind representational painting as early as 1906. When she painted, she was in touch with a higher consciousness that spoke through her. In her exceptional, colorful works, geometric shapes and symbols are combined with ornamental elements. Her multi-layered visual world addresses different dimensions of existence, where the microcosm and macrocosm reflect each other.
