Terraces is made up of rectangular shapes. Like an aerial photograph of a cultivated landscape. Unlike other artists' abstract, geometric compositions from this time, the lines in this painting are not hard and straight and the colors are not clear and distinct. The rectangles are skewed. The paint looks like it was applied and then washed off, or applied so thinly that the pigments almost flowed away. Klee often drew inspiration from various travels. The warm color tones in Terraces are influenced by his experiences in Egypt, where he traveled in the winter of 1928-1929.
