Thomas Schütte works in a variety of styles. The formats range from monumental sculptures, installations and architectural models to drawings, watercolors and graphics. The exhibition and catalogue Thomas Schütte: United Enemies presents his work from the last twenty years onwards. The catalogue is richly illustrated and contains an introduction to the artist's work by Moderna Museet's curator Matilda Olof-Ors, an essay by Bente Larsen, professor of art history at the University of Oslo, which focuses on the fragmented body and how this aesthetic and philosophical concept relates to Thomas Schütte's work. Moderna Museet's director Daniel Birnbaum draws on Franz Kafka in his text when describing the sculpture Vater Staat, which greets visitors at the entrance to the museum.
