Poster, Joan Miró, Head of a Catalan Peasant

The head of a Catalan peasant is a central motif that Joan Miró returns to several times. In the center is the peasant's red Phrygian cap. The cap was a symbol of freedom and the artist even had one in his studio. A cobalt blue space dominates the picture surface, populated by a black and a white star. The very small, red Phrygian cap rivals a red line at the top of the picture, which - possibly - could be the glow from the peasant's pipe in one of the earlier pictures on the same theme.

The motif on this poster is a work of art in the collection of Moderna Museet.
