At the beginning of the 1960s, Niki de Saint Phalle established herself internationally. As the first and only woman, she was included in the Nouveau Réalisme artist group, along with Arman, Christo, Yves Klein and Jean Tinguely, among others. She is best known for her colorful and rounded goddesses, which she named Nanor. Both the drawn and sculpted Nanors were originally inspired by a pregnant friend. The original sculptures were made of fabric and found objects. As she gradually developed them, she began to use polyester, ceramics and other components to make the statues more curvaceous. The Nanors expressed women's newly gained strong position in society during the 1960s.
The poster is a reproduction of a screenprint from 1968 in the Moderna Museet collection.
