Marija Prymatchenko (1909–1997) is a central figure in Ukrainian art history and one of the country's most well-known and appreciated artists. Her motifs have appeared on stamps and a planetoid has been named after her. The stylized yet playful patterns have their origins in folk embroidery and traditional crafts.
