Catalog for the exhibition of the same name in the Nordic Pavilion at the 57th Venice Biennale, featuring works by six artists from different generations: Siri Aurdal, Nina Canell, Charlotte Johannesson, Jumana Manna, Pasi "Sleeping" Myllymäki and Mika Taanila.

The publication presents newly written essays for each of the artists, who all share an experimental approach. For the older generation, this is expressed in modular sculptures, translations of textile crafts into computer animations or performative actions with the camera as an instrument. Material-based processes and social issues also occupy the younger generation, whose cinematic montage techniques, sculptural shifts of spatial perception or explorations of power relations make a claim on the open architecture of the pavilion. The aim of using the allegory of the mirror is to shift the focus of the discussion away from the nature of art in accordance with national borders. Instead, the emphasis is on the participating artists and how their practices illuminate the different ways in which borders can be dissolved and transcended, and how this happens. The exhibition and this book function as a loop in which figuration, material, technique and performance process gradually replace each other.
