Thai artist Korakrit Arunanondchai combines deeply personal experiences with global political developments. His video works, installations, paintings and performances combine the alarm of a complex, globalized world with the calm of dimensions beyond the physical.

His work is characterized by the dualism between spirituality and technology, memory and amnesia, contemplation and ecstasy. Above all, Korakrit Arunanondchai sees himself as a storyteller, drawing his material from folk traditions and rituals, contemporary activism and club culture. A constant theme is the dissolution of identity linked to generation, gender and nationality, and he uses here his experiences of living in both Thailand and the United States. Another key to his artistry is the interest in geopolitical conflicts, especially in relation to the history of Southeast Asia, and he shows how Thai culture and worldview are permeated by Buddhism and animism, where the artist takes the role of shaman. A link between present and past, life and death.
