Gabriel Orozco, born in 1962 in Mexico, lives and works in Paris, New York and Mexico City, is one of the most acclaimed artists of his generation but has not previously been exhibited in the Nordic countries. Since the late 1980s, his artistry has grown in reputation and paved the way for a new form of conceptual art, which neither compromises on the depth of thought nor the precision of craftsmanship. In the museum's effort to go beyond the Western beaten path, Orozco is a key figure in understanding the world of today. Regardless of the medium - sculpture, photography, painting, drawing, installation - he works from the place where he is, sometimes seemingly improvised but often in series, over a long period of time. The exhibition and catalogue have been produced by Kunsthaus Bregenz in collaboration with Moderna Museet in Stockholm.
