Pontus Hultén and Moderna Museet, From Stockholm to Paris

Pontus Hultén (1924-2006) worked at the Moderna Museet between 1958 and 1973. He became the museum director in 1960. It was in that role that he built up the collection and Moderna Museet's international reputation with exhibitions like Movement in Art (1961), American Pop Art: 106 Forms of Love and Despair (1964), She—a Cathedral (1966), and Andy Warhol (1968).

In 2005, Pontus Hultén donated his private art collection, his library, and his archive to Moderna Museet. The purpose of Moderna Museet's ongoing research is to focus on his work as a curator and museum director and to reflect on what the legacy of the legendary 1960s means for the museum today. The project has resulted in two books: Pontus Hultén and Moderna Museet: The Formative Years (2017) and this book, Pontus Hultén and Moderna Museet: From Stockholm to Paris (2023).
