The work is part of the Moderna Museet collection and is shown in the group exhibition Sleepless Nights.

Ingrid Orfali has been relatively absent from the Swedish art scene, but has played a significant role in art history writing. She was born in Egypt, studied in Paris and Lund, received her doctorate in both semiotics and French, and has lived on a farm outside Sydney for over twenty years. In both her art and her texts, she highlighted the postmodern condition, such as the debate around original and copy. During the second half of the 1980s, she created a series of photographs with motifs that linked both to feminism and a surrealist theme. The images are enigmatic, the parts often trivial, but the stagings become dramatic. The ambiguous titles, where Swedish, French and English are mixed, add another theoretical layer to the playful and humorous side of her work.

Item no.: UT272

© Ingrid Orfali/Image copyright 2023
