After weeks of torrential rain, the sun and the special light he was looking for came. The ground in the painting is painted blue on a pink ground and covered in lush acanthus leaves, just like the luxuriant garden where he worked on the work. Matisse sought the inherent ability of colors to express, in this case dripping moisture, growth and power.
