During this time, he supported himself as an illustrator. The National Police Gazette sent him to circuses to illustrate their acts, which inspired him to create the groundbreaking sculpture installation (and film) Calder's Circus, (1926-1931).\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003e Calder moved to Paris in 1926 and became close friends with Joan Miró. He also visited Piet Mondrian in his studio in 1930, a meeting that led to his transition from figuration to his abstract primary-color mobiles.
